"Between Faith and Reason is an insightful collection of essays that explore Catholic Modernism. Morrow's first chapter is autobiographical and contextualizes Catholic Modernism within the history of modern biblical scholarship. The personal nature of the first chapter makes it my favorite in the book. Morrow then focuses the study onto Alfred Loisy. He draws interesting comparisons between Loisy's ecclesiology and some of the debates and directions taken by the Second Vatican Council, especially on the universal call to holiness. Written in very approachable language, Morrow's handy text would be useful in the classroom or for personal reading and understanding of Catholic thought."

"Professor Morrow has emerged as a leading voice in the study of the Catholic Modernists of the early twentieth century, with a focus on the impact of historical-critical biblical scholarship. Given the ongoing influence of the perspectives they championed, the widespread neglect of the Catholic Modernists among scholars today is shocking--especially since the Modernists' viewpoints are in fact embraced by many contemporary Catholic scholars. Morrow's short volume provides a superb impetus toward reigniting this crucial field."
