Broken Trust

M. Lea

The grisly murder of Todd Kory, a beloved high school math teacher and basketball coach, shakes the sleepy town of Drisdon, Wyoming. Detective Keelan Brandt has been assigned to the high-profile case.

As Keelan begins her work, she visits Todd's widow, Samantha, to break the tragic news. Samantha, herself a teacher at the same high school, is devastated - feverish from the flu and overcome with shock at the loss of her husband. She collapses into Keelan's arms.

In the following days, a disturbing pattern emerges as Keelan interviews those closest to Todd. His indiscretion has led to his lover getting pregnant. Samantha is blindsided by these revelations about the man she loved, sending her into a spiral of sadness and loneliness.

Compounding Samantha's grief is the reappearance of her estranged brother-in-law, Elliott, who arrives for Todd's funeral with lecherous intentions. Elliott makes crass sexual advances toward the vulnerable widow, which she forcefully rebuffs. However, in her emotionally fragile state, Samantha finds unexpected solace in Detective Brandt's caring presence during this ordeal.

An unmistakable chemistry blossoms between the two women, which they try to deny amid the controversial circumstances. But their feelings prove too strong to ignore. After a tender moment leads to their first kiss, Samantha and Keelan cautiously embark on a romantic relationship, providing light in the darkness of recent events.

Their newfound intimacy, however, puts them squarely in the crosshairs of Todd's killer.
