Sixteen year-old Nicole Mazer cares about exactly three things-her Fender Stratocaster, growing her collection of grunge music, and signing on with a major music label. And what else is to be expected of a Seattle tomboy in 1993?

But when she's forced to move to California, everything falls apart. Rocked by the deaths of her family and the loss of the record deal she's been working towards for years, she throws herself into a relationship with her foster brother, Kaden, in order to escape the mess her life has become.
