Cameroon: FERDINAND NGOH NGOH, WHAT IF IT WAS HIM...: The man for the job

Dyfred Mensac

Some ill-informed Cameroonians have often thought that the Minister of State, Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic (SGPR), Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, enjoys exorbitant privileges. However, the SGPR has never gone beyond the scope of his duties as defined by law. All of his actions, outings, and documents base their legitimacy on the laws and the Constitution currently in force in Cameroon. Indeed, the Cameroonian Constitution establishes the Presidency of the Republic as the main center of decision-making and command in the country. The President of the Republic wields predominant executive power over the judicial and legislative branches. After the President of the Republic, His Excellency Paul Biya, the highest-ranking official in the Presidency of the Republic is, without a doubt, the Minister of State, Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh. The Constitution grants great privileges to the President of the Republic, and the latter can delegate his signature to the SGPR to streamline governing and governmental action.

Disregarding the detractors who believe he oversteps his limits and usurps the powers of the Head of State, informed observers of the Cameroonian political scene instead assert that it is the dynamism and loyalty of Mr. Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh that have allowed him to benefit from the trust of President Paul Biya, and that he has never deviated from either the law or the authority of the Head of State.

Given the numerous rumors spread by his adversaries, the objective Cameroonian citizen wonders: Who is Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh? Is he truly the monster they want us to believe? Why is he the subject of so many accusations? "What if it were him...!?", a phrase that evokes a wish. The wish that President Paul Biya would make Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh his successor/deputy and continue to grant him a predominant role for the proper functioning of our nation.
