Chris the Crocodile & the Disappearing Swamp

Sarah Dawn Bergs

Follow Chris the Crocodile, a young Nile crocodile living along South Africa's Olifants River, as he embarks on an adventure to understand the changing world around him. In this gentle tale, Chris explores a nearby swamp, enjoys the beauty of nature, and discovers how human changes - like a dam - can impact the wild. With the help of Windy the Owl and Camilla the Crocodile, Chris learns about resilience, finding new beginnings, and the importance of protecting wetland habitats for all creatures, big and small.

With engaging storytelling, fun facts about Nile crocodiles, and important lessons on water conservation and habitat protection, this book teaches young readers (ages 5-9) about environmental stewardship. It's a part of the Nourish Education Series-a collection of conservation-themed stories co-created with the Green Kidz of Nourish Eco Village, South Africa. Join Chris as he explores the vital connections between nature, resilience, and the need to protect our planet.

This beautifully illustrated book inspires empathy and curiosity while fostering an understanding of how our actions can impact the world around us. Perfect for young readers who love animals and adventure, this story encourages them to think critically about the environment and the importance of taking care of our natural resources.

About the Author

Bergs, Sarah Dawn: - Sarah Bergs grew up on the wild edge of South Africa's Kruger National Park, where elephants truly wandered through her backyard, her pet mongoose snuggled up in her pocket, and daily life was filled with the sights and sounds of the African bush. With a dad who worked as a game ranger and home-schooled by mom between game drives, her childhood was anything but ordinary-and it sparked a lifelong love for nature and wildlife. But she didn't just see nature as beautiful-she saw it as a teacher, a healer, and a home. That love grew into a mission. Her first children's book Chris the Crocodile and the Disappearing Swamp is a delightful first in a series of stories to help youth understand the joys and challenges that are faced by wildlife. Helping to imagine the world they're living in, the consequences of our actions and the importance of respecting and protecting it.Today, Sarah is the founder of Nourish Eco Village, a nonprofit that works to reduce poverty, empower youth, and protect the environment through education and creativity. The Nourish Educational Series of books was born from the desire to share that dream.
