Having grown up in a catholic family, Matthieu Daum turned his back on the Church in his teens, disillusioned with the hypocrisy and the dissonance he felt within this institution. But the flame that had been burning in his heart during his early years never quite went out ...
Many years later, after living on a kibbutz in Israel, studying philosophy, and working in psychiatry in England, Matthieu started a career as an organisational development consultant, working with public sector and multinational companies. One day, a colleague invited him to work on an assignment with a religious community grappling with internal conflicts, and his career took a most unexpected turn.
Fifteen years on, he is now a recognised international expert on accompanying religious congregations on their journey towards organisational transformation, having developed, with his own consultancy firm Nexus, specific methodologies for collective discernment and decision-making for over fifty congregations around the world.
Recounting many situations in which Matthieu was asked to intervene, and the various ways in which he endeavoured to accompany the regeneration of these congregations, this book portrays Matthieu's own spiritual journey, with its slow but ever deeper reconnection to "this mystery that we call God", and the impact that this had had on his own professional practice, maturing from a position of expert consultant to one of facilitator, able to work fully with what is emerging, trusting the process, and, beyond, the Spirit that offers Its guidance.
