Four Directions of the Wind

Raven Killsthunder

A story of a Lakota way of life that was forever changed by the events of the Massacre at Wounded Knee in South Dakota Territory in 1890. This is how one family's tragic death at Wounded Knee affected their daughter, leading her to become independent and resilient, fighting for her family and her people .

Red Feather Woman was only sixteen years old when she lost most of her family at Wounded Knee. She, and what was left of her family, arrived in Pine Ridge with virtually nothing but the clothes on their backs.

But Red Feather Woman, now known as Beulah, is nothing if not resourceful and resilient. She begins a business supplying feathers to the white women's fashion markets, and builds it up from there to a prosperous trading post.

Along the way, she meets the love of her life, adds to her family both by blood and by love, and fights to protect her community and people from bushwhackers and bandits threatening their way of life.
