With nothing to lose Richard drives across America and once at the oilfield discovers from the unfriendly manager there's no work! So Richard wanders into the nearest rural town Frigus, looking for other work.

The only place open late at night is the local bar and as he wanders inside Garland the owner mistakes Richard to be the hitman he hired to kill his sister-in-law, Selma. Richard decides to take full advantage of the situation, collects the money and runs. But things go wrong, and soon get worse when he runs into the real hitman, Mal who's arrived in town.
