Capturing Fleeting Moments of Brilliance: Preserving the Legal History of Chinese American Women
This book is not simply a collection of recent events. The cases I have included are carefully chosen legal precedents-each carrying profound legal and historical significance. These are not isolated occurrences but pivotal moments that have shaped- and will continue to shape-the legal standing of the Chinese American community. Without documentation and analysis, these cases risk being forgotten, lost in the vast sea of legal history. My goal is to ensure they remain accessible and meaningful for future generations.
As for the women highlighted in this book, they are not just notable figures. They are legislators, policymakers, and legal pioneers-women who have actively shaped laws and policies that impact our daily lives. When I published Herstory 1 a decade ago, there were only 3 Chinese American women legislators in the U.S. Today, there are at least 25. This is not just progress-it is a transformation. Chinese Americans are no longer merely subjects of the law; we are now shaping law.
America is a nation governed by law, and our growing representation in legislative and legal arenas marks a significant milestone. Herstory 3 seeks to reflect that progress, providing both historical context and legal analysis to showcase how far we have come.
