Liquid Crystals with Nano/Micro Particles and Their Applications

Jayeeta Chattopadhyay

LCs are self-organized anisotropic fluids that are thermodynamically located between the isotropic liquid and the crystalline phase, exhibiting the fluidity of liquids as well as the long-range lattice order that can only be found in crystalline solids. The addition of nanomaterials to a LC material produces a composite or colloidal dispersion and results into a revolutionary change in their applications. This book will discuss the remarkable performances of nano-particle aided liquid crystals in metamaterials, photonics, functionalized polymer fibres, sensing, and medical diagnostics.

About the Author

Jayeeta Chattopadhyay obtained her Ph.D. in New Energy Engineering with best doctoral thesis award from Seoul National University of Science and Technology, S. Korea (2010). She has obtained the prestigious Fast Track Young Scientist Award (2010) and early Career Research Award (2017) from Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. Her research interest includes nano-structured materials for energy applications and thermo degradation of solid waste materials. She also works on oscillatory chemical reactions and pattern formation in reaction diffusion system. Dr. Chattopadhyay is currently working as Associate Professor and Assistant Director (R&D), Amity University, Jharkhand, Ranchi, India.

Rohit Srivastava earned his Ph.D. degree (Applied Chemistry) from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi, India, in 2015. He spent more than 1 year as Dr. D S Kothari Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, India. During his tenure at IISc., he got an offer for another Post-doctoral position at Harvard University USA, where he spent 2 years (June 2016- June 2018) working on a research project sponsored by Repsol SA (An global energy company based in Madrid Spain). In 2016, Dr. Srivastava was awarded best scientific researcher award by Association of Scientist, Developers and Faculties (ASDF) global in Michigan, USA. At present Dr. Srivastava holds the position of Assistant Professor at School of Petroleum Technology, Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar Gujarat India, since August 2018 and working in the area of advance nanomaterial based catalyst for energy applications.
