Sent abroad by Turkish Airlines for pilot training, Çakıcı began flying as a co-pilot after completing his education. Throughout his career, he has flown Boeing 727, 737, RJ 70/100, Airbus 319-320-321, and Boeing 777 aircraft. A married man with two children, Çakıcı currently serves as a captain pilot and flight instructor on Boeing 777 aircraft. He is the author of numerous books on flight safety and aviation
