The Alabama 12th Infantry Regiment was organized May-July, 1861. It participated in all of the major battles in Virginia, losing more than half it's men to wounds and disease. It surrendered at Appomattox, approx. 50 of the original and 70 of the later recruits. Park, Robert E.: - The author, Robert Emory Park was captain of Company F of the Alabama 12th Infantry Regiment. He gives a very readable and engaging account of the many actions of the regiment. The book was edited by John C. Rigdon. John Rigdon has authored a number of books on the American Civil War and is the manager of the web site, Research OnLine, (www.researchonline.net) the premier site for researching Civil War ancestors in the Civil War. His titles include the Historical Sketch and Roster Volumes (1100 plus titles) and a dozen volumes in the "We Fought" series focusing on particular battles and commanders. Additionally John works in translation of materials in several languages and maintains the website, www.wordsrus.info. John resides in eastern Iowa where he enjoys gardening and bonsai.
