SOG Missions to the Well

Dale Hanson

A respected Special Forces combat veteran of the top-secret MACV-SOG, Dale Hanson draws upon his first-hand knowledge to write with an intensity only possible by a warrior who equally knows how to wield a pen. Well written and thoroughly engaging, it's an excellent read." -Maj. John Plaster, Ret., Special Forces, SOG warrior and author

"I have read many books written by my fellow SOG veterans, but Dale Hanson's style is unique, taking the reader into the reality of a SOG operator and the circumstances of SOG missions while not losing sight of the humanity of those involved. A SOG recon veteran, Dale has the experience and authority to give authenticity to his writing. SOG: Missions to the Well, is even more gripping and compelling than his previous book, Born Twice. Dale's newest effort has encapsulated our world of cross border missions and the teams that ran them and written them for readers to experience. Hard to put down, this book is full of irony, compassion, patriotism, dedication, dark humor and- of course- the warrior ethos., It reads like fiction but, as has been said, 'you can't make this stuff up!' Highly recommended." -John Padgett MAJ (Ret), USSF Medical NCOIC Kontum 1970-71

"With his latest book, ex-SOG soldier Dale Hanson draws his reader deep into a fascinating landscape, because he understands that the world of special operations amounts to a modern-day samurai culture with its own bushido code. He describes the time when the rules of special warfare were being written in blood by super-secret units in which casualty rates consistently exceeded 100%. Go along on missions deep into enemy territory that brought moments of sublime natural beauty and sudden, wrenching bursts of almost incomprehensible violence and polished military skill. A world in which each Special Forces soldier understood that the mission was more important than the team, and the team was more important than him." -Michael Buckland, Special Forces CCC RT Maine/Ford Drum Missions

About the Author

Hanson, Dale: - Dale Hanson is an accomplished sculptor who has led a life of adventure and enjoyed numerous accomplishments. He is a black belt martial artist, an author, a pilot of fixed wing and glider airplanes, has flown aerobatics and is a Special Forces underwater diver. He is a disabled veteran and a member of MENSA.During the Vietnam War, Dale was a highly decorated Green Beret who served three years as a commando in the famous SOG program, whose mission involved extremely dangerous raids far behind enemy lines. This unit received more decorations and suffered higher rates of casualties than any American unit since the American Civil War. On one of these raids, Dale earned the first of several purple hearts as his right hand was mangled by a burst of machine gun fire. It is ironic that he became a sculptor, a field in which one's hands are so critical.

Only someone who earned entrance to that secret and forbidden world can take you inside it to see the missions and meet the men who answered their country's call. As one who served and fought with Dale Hanson for years in SOG operations, I can tell you: this is how it was, and this is why so many of these amazing Special Forces soldiers never got to tell their stories." -Michael Buckland, Special Forces CCC RT Maine/Ford Drum Missions
