Stronger: How Hard Times Reveal God's Greatest Power

Clayton King

When we think of success, we think of words like bigger, more, and better. Bigger paycheck, more security, better reputation. But what if God's perspective on success was radically different than our own? What if the things we seek to avoid-pain, suffering, weakness, insecurity-were the very things he used to mold us into his image?

With insights born from his own difficult journey, Clayton King offers readers a truly liberating understanding of weakness and suffering-not as God's punishment, but as his pruning. Revealing the God who is a companion in our most difficult seasons, King shows us that when we are in Christ, our deepest pain becomes the source of our greatest power, and our times of testing become our strongest testimony. Anyone who struggles to make sense of seemingly hopeless situations will find in this book not only hope for a brighter future but purpose in their imperfect present.

Praise for this book

"This book is more than a page-turner. It's a game-changer. It's courageous. It's bold. It's vulnerable and funny and redemptive. It's a revolutionary way to see suffering, which Jesus modeled two thousand years ago. You will learn that no one is exempt from difficulty. We don't get a pass when it comes to pain. But we can worship God in our weakness because pain has a way of clearing out the clutter in our lives. It burns off the excess and allows us to see what really matters after all: the people we love, the message we carry, and the God we worship." -From the foreword by Mark Batterson, author of The Grave Robber

"What a rare and beautiful gift it is for a man to fully open his broken heart. My friend, Clayton, does just that in this book. He helped me see God isn't breaking me but actually making me. You will gain such needed perspective and comfort from these pages." -Lysa TerKeurst, president, Proverbs 31 Ministries; New York Times bestselling author of The Best Yes

"Clayton is one of the most gifted gospel communicators I've ever known-one of my preaching heroes. But this book is not a message, it is the revelation of his soul. Clayton is a man who has walked through fire, a fire God used to forge him into an instrument of grace. This book will not inspire you. It will transform you." -J. D. Greear, PhD, author of Jesus, Continued . . . Why the Spirit Inside You Is Better than Jesus Beside You and Gospel: Recovering the Power That Made Christianity Revolutionary

"Clayton has written an inspiring work that helps us glorify God amid adversity. Whether entering, in the middle of, or exiting a difficult time, this book will guide you to find eternal grace beyond your earthly circumstances. In this life, we all encounter difficult times that make this book a must-read for everyone." -Thomas White, president and professor of theology, Cedarville University

"Stronger is genuinely authentic, brutally honest, and refreshingly transparent. It is also painful yet healing, sorrowful yet hopeful. Many will be encouraged and helped by this book in which my friend, Clayton King, lays bare his soul and, in the process, shows us the wonderful grace and mercy of God that is available to all who run to him as Father." -Daniel L. Akin, president, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary

"I've known Clayton since 1999. I love him. He's been a friend and brother to me. My life is stronger because of him. In the pages of Stronger, you not only will meet my friend and brother, you will also meet the God who has forged Clayton into the man he is today. And your life will be stronger too." -Derwin L. Gray, lead pastor, Transformation Church; author of Healing Our Racial Divide

"So often, self-centered theology shouts the lie that God desires to shelter his children from any form of adversity. Clayton King, however, shouts back loud and clear that God often ordains and actually uses adversity in the lives of his beloved to grow them in their faith. What a needed message." -David Nasser, author of Jumping Through Fires
