In the Earth's deep and ancient past, a group of humans was sent to Alpha Centauri to check out the only rocky planet (Proxima b) orbiting one of the stars (Alpha Centauri A) in the triple star binary system. It had been discovered that a rogue neutron star constituted a potential future threat to their solar system, and so as a precautionary measure, humanity decided to seek out a future home (ie, Proxima b)., The saga was not without its problems. Due to interstellar flares atmosphere suffered rapid warming and equally rapid cooling, which resulted in surface water turning to ice and during rapid cooling and then being evaporated during the rapid warming. Another issue haunted the astronauts: Should they not succeed in mastering Proxima b's climate, there would be no rescue from Earth. They either succeeded or died trying.
