The Gift

Shoshana Levit

The Gift is a clever and visually striking picture book that invites young readers to explore big ideas through a small surprise. What's the difference between not big, not small, and tiny? What do more and less really mean?

When Paul receives a mysterious present--a closed box--his questions begin. Inside, he finds a white egg, and with the curiosity and fine motor skills familiar to all young readers, he discovers that this egg holds more than meets the eye. Layer by layer, surprise by surprise, Paul's gift becomes a delightful exploration of comparison, counting, and discovery.

With playful rhymes, gentle humor, and rhythmic repetition, The Gift supports memory development and language skills. The clean, flat illustrations burst with expression and movement while keeping Paul and his adventure at center stage. And at the joyful conclusion, young readers are invited to count the egg's many parts--because sometimes the best gifts are the ones that keep opening.
