Clan Mackintosh are one of the great Clans of the Scottish Highlands. Through marraige they became Captain's of Clan Chattan, the largest confederacy of Clans in the North. For over 350 years they were at feud with Clan Cameron and their allies and continued a similar feud with the MacDonalds of Keppoch for over 100 years. Clan Mackintosh were at the forefront of Scotland's fight for Independence from the English and fought for Wallace, Bruce and the Stewart Kings. They suffered for their loyalty to King Charles I, King Charles II and King James VII. They were strong supporters of the Jacobite Cause and fought in all the rebellions against the British Government in the 18th century.
As the power of the Clan Chiefs waned, they became the backbone of the British Empire. Despite this, many Mackintoshes were dispossessed of their lands and sought new opportunities in North America or the Caribbean, where they helped to develop many nations.
The Clan remains strong today and retains it's own unique identity.
