Thirteen Fostered Years

Casey Hardman

Around the world, many children enter the foster care system. Different circumstances lead to a child's removal from their home; each child's experience is unique. Every story deserves individual attention. Sometimes, people realize they are unprepared to parent. When these issues persist, they can affect a child's development. With multiple adults involved in a child's life, confusion can arise, especially with differing opinions on how to behave and live. Children from troubled homes require extra care, patience, and attention. It is the duty of foster parents and caseworkers-despite their caseloads-to give each child the care they are entitled to and that was promised when they were removed. These children depend on support to help them grow in society and build a future away from life's hardships.

This book is based on the life of just one of those children.

"Thirteen Fostered Years" is a memoir about Casey, a young boy taken from his parents at age two and placed in foster care. Throughout his childhood, Casey experienced the challenges of moving between various foster homes while facing abuse, bullying, and loneliness. He was uncertain whether he would remain in the foster system, be adopted, or reunite with his biological parents. As he grew older, his struggles intensified-wondering who would listen, who he could trust, and who could love him. These questions marked his journey through a life filled with uncertainty, living as a foster child.
