Vacuum Cleaner

Ramasees Daz

My apartment, before Xylo arrived, was a testament to my creative genius - or perhaps, more accurately, my spectacular lack of organizational skills. Imagine a Jackson Pollock painting, but instead of vibrant hues, it was a chaotic splatter of discarded manuscripts, overflowing ashtrays (I'm working on quitting, honestly), half-empty coffee cups that had developed their own unique ecosystem of dried coffee rings, and socks - oh, so many socks. One particularly valiant sock had even managed to climb atop a precarious stack of books, achieving a level of defiance that was both impressive and irritating. The air itself hung heavy with the scent of stale coffee, slightly burnt toast (a recurring theme), and the faint, unsettling aroma of something vaguely resembling forgotten pizza. My desk, a once-proud mahogany behemoth, was now a landscape of crumpled paper, errant pens, and a keyboard that sported a thin dusting of what I hoped was just sugar. The kitchen, a battlefield of culinary experiments gone wrong, featured a lingering film of grease on every surface, a collection of mismatched Tupperware containers filled with unidentified substances, and a sink that seemed to be harboring a small, but thriving, civilization of its own. Dust bunnies, the size of small rodents, roamed the floor with an unsettling air of self-importance, their furry forms almost defiant in their presence.
