Women Living the Psalms

Karen Kaigler-Walker

Psalms is the most read and loved book in the Bible because it speaks to people about living their daily lives in God and with God like no other book in the Bible. For women, when they begin to live the words of the psalmists, not just read or hear them, they begin a personal relationship and partnership with God that addresses the ordinary ups, downs, and messiness of each day--one that speaks when dark times come, and they can't see a way out without God's help. Not only do psalms teach women how to praise, thank, ask for advice (wisdom), and live daily as God would have them live in community with others, but psalms also teach them how to be angry with God. They need this--they need to know that no matter what they think or say when they're hurt, confused, tired, or at their wit's end, God will not judge them in their humanness but, instead, will offer comfort, support, assurance, guidance, and love. Come, learn how to live the Psalms.

Praise for this book

"This book transforms the Psalms from familiar liturgical readings to amazingly personal outpourings of emotion. Karen categorizes the Psalms and then shows us how to use them to deal with all the normal feelings in a woman's life from 'Oh, Lord!' to 'Thank you, Jesus!' Use it as a personal or small group study guide. Keep it handy as a resource for when you need help clarifying your own overwhelming emotions."
--Wendy Campbell, President, United Women in Faith, Horizon Texas Conference

"What a great book! I love the way Karen describes how 'the Psalms make it possible to say things that are otherwise unsayable.' I especially loved the story about Karen's grandmother, and her exercise routine to the Twenty-third Psalm. Talk about an application! Most especially, I discovered a new appreciation for the Psalms of lament and realized how much I, and perhaps everyone needs them. I highly recommend this great book!
--Tom Long, Superintendent, Northwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church

"Combining touching vulnerability with her signature humor, Karen Kaigler-Walker explores how the Psalms are completely livable in Women Living the Psalms. Karen's masterful storytelling and ability to draw from both ancient and modern wisdom helps us find life-long and life-wide nourishment from one of the Bible's most famous books."
