Having delivered family justice to her killer uncle, Raylene Little Moon turns to unraveling her sister's mysterious death. Needing local knowledge and contacts, she seeks assistance from John Murphy, the Union Pacific Railroad detective who recently pursued her onto South Dakota's Pine Ridge Reservation where he stirred up trouble.

John Murphy's job is in peril due to mistakes he made while on the Pine Ridge, but Raylene draws him into her search, her determination and courage piercing his reserve. Though their cultures are vastly different, he soon hungers to know her better. Plus, he needs her help in solving a mystery.
