Praise for this book

All I can say is that "It's Not Fair!" How is it that Wayne gets to write such a good book and not me? All kidding aside--this is a book you'll want to read, re-read and pass on to someone else. . . . This book, while meaty, is not cooked until it is dry and abstract. It is seasoned by the maturity of the cook's ways with words garnished by him with useful quotations. . . . What more can be said? Get the book--several copies if possible. Then read, profit and determine to live more faithfully for our sovereign God Who does all things well!--Jay E. Adams, former director of advanced studies and professor of practical theology at Westminster Theological Seminary, and retired pastor.
The temptation to question God's justice (and His love and goodness) is common to man. Those who regularly give in to this temptation come to develop a "it's not fair" mindset--an attitude that falsely accuses Him of wrongdoing. And, few things cause as many counseling concerns as such a foolish interpretation of providence. "It's Not Fair!" is really a practical book about repentance--how I can change my mind in reference to "the Lord's dealings with me." That's the key to developing a new and eternal perspective about "personal injustices." Dr. Mack offers help and hope to those who have fallen into this prevalent trap by refocusing their attention on the perfections of God. It's just the kind of book I've been looking for. It will be a blessing to many.--Lou Priolo, author of several books, Director of the Center for Biblical Counseling at Eastwood Presbyterian Church in Montgomery, Alabama, instructor at Birmingham Theological Seminary, Fellow in the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors, and a section editor for the Journal of Modern Ministry.
It's Not Fair! is a simple yet profound and practical book. Since we are all prone to murmur against God's kind providence, everyone should read this book. Like the book of Job, It's Not Fair! moves us from a disgruntled spirit to end in God and his glorious attributes. I wish I had had this book thirty years ago when I entered the ministry; over the years, I would have given it to hundreds of counselees. Thanks to Wayne Mack for putting his finger again on the pulse of a pressing contemporary problem and for providing a God-centered and Scripture-saturated solution.--Joel R. Beeke, President, Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary
In his foreword to the book, Jay Adams stole my first line--"It's not fair that Wayne wrote this book and before I could!" Actually it is a good thing because Wayne did a better job than I would have. Wayne Mack brings forty years of counseling experience to some of the toughest questions people face in the painful (seemingly unfair) experiences of life. His point is that people in trouble won't be helped by mere syrupy platitudes. Rather, they need to know God better. Wayne points the reader to God by surveying His attributes, not merely in the abstract, but as practical comfort for hurting souls. He expounds Scripture while effectively weaving in biblical examples, and real life cases from his vast experience as a counselor. The applications are direct and specific. He closes each chapter with an appropriate hymn and a reflections, applications and discussion questions section. This is a clear and concise book which will benefit all who read it. Wayne offers a model for biblical counselors who seek to help with people who are angry with God.--Jim Newheiser, Grace Bible Church, Director of Institute for Biblical Counseling and Discipleship, Coauthor of When Good Kids Make Bad Choices, Board Member of Fellowship of Reformed Evangelicals, Escondido, CA
With wonderful insight and clarity, Wayne Mack explores the difficult issue of how to reconcile God's justice with His sovereignty. He shines the bright light of Scripture on some of the toughest questions of all, and then carefully explores the answers in a way that is easy to follow and truly helpful.--John MacArthur, President, The Master's University and Seminary
The Bible is not served to us cafeteria-style. We don't get to pick and choose what we want. If we adopt only those parts of the Bible that we feel comfortable with, we are in desperate danger of creating a god in our own image.' This blunt, yet accurate warning from Wayne Mack's (with Deborah Howard) newest book captures the essence of why so many professing Christians struggle with life's seeming unfairness. We too often are willing to accept some elements of what Scripture teaches about God and ourselves, while at the same time rejecting other equally important and necessary elements, thus skewing the balanced biblical picture we ought to have about God's fairness in the context of human trials. It's Not Fair! is an honest assessment of how we have allowed contemporary notions of fairness to rule our hearts rather than coming to grips with the true nature of God and His character. By helping us to see the actual God of the Bible, the authors provide tremendous insight in our understanding of how to grapple with the genuine pain and vexing challenges of the Christian life. From explanations of the Lord's omniscience and wisdom, His love and justice, His omnipotence and sovereignty; to a moving composite of actual counseling cases which Dr. Mack has encountered over the years; all explained with clarity and skill, we are at once admonished and encouraged to think rightly about our God. And only when we think rightly about Him can we think rightly about ourselves. We can begin to understand who we are--in light of who He is--thus bringing life's murky views into much clearer focus. If ever in life you've uttered: It's Not Fair!, I urge you to sit down and read this book. I trust it will change your perspective--and may even change your life!--Lance Quinn, Pastor-Teacher, The Bible Church of Little Rock, Little Rock, Arkansas
Who hasn't complained that life is unfair? Wayne Mack analyzes that common complaint from a biblical and heavenly perspective, reminding us why we don't really want what's "fair." Dr. Mack's skill as a seasoned counselor definitely comes through in this work. He patiently, straightforwardly, and systematically unpacks some notoriously difficult questions and sorts them out with answers that are profoundly encouraging.--Phil Johnson, Executive Director, Grace to You
In "it's not fair" Dr Wayne Mack lifts us up from the pain of thinking that as Christians "we are plagued all day long and chastened every morning", while the wicked "have eyes that bulge with abundance and have all that heart could wish for" to the comfort of knowing that God does sovereignly oversee our difficulties and He does it with love and justice In "it's not fair" Dr Wayne Mack lifts us up from the pain of thinking that as Christians "we are plagued all day long and chastened every morning", while the wicked "have eyes that bulge with abundance and have all that heart could wish for" to the comfort of knowing that God does sovereignly oversee our difficulties with love and justice and with a view to promoting the good of even those who think "it's not fair" In writing "it's not fair, Dr Mack has once again put into our hands a book that will train us to think God's way and to compel us, even when we are in the mire of life, to come to the conclusion that "it is fair". I highly commend it!--Ronald Kalifungwa, Pastor, Lusaka Baptist Church. Zambia
Some Christian books are like bad soup--thin, watery, and lacking in nutritional value. In contrast, It's Not Fair is like a good stew--thick, meaty, and spiritually sustaining. As with all of Wayne Mack's books, this one is so packed with Bible you'll need to eat it with a fork, not a spoon. Enjoy!--Pastor Joel James, Grace Fellowship Church, Pretoria, South Africa, Teacher at Grace School of Ministry, Pretoria, South Africa, Director of Shepherd's Conferences in South Africa
In contrast to the plethora of self-help books that point you inside your despairing self for an answer to the nightmares of life, Wayne Mack and Deborah Howard have written a book that points you away from yourself to the God who ordains all things. That is the biblical way. In reading this book your sense of confusion, self-pity and anger diminishes as you see the trials of life from the stand-point of God's character. The cry, "It's not fair!" will give way to "wonder, love and praise." If you are a pastor, like me, you will want to put this book into the hands of the hurting souls you are ministering to. They really need to study its rich contents!--Conrad Mbewe, Pastor, Kabwata Baptist Church, Lusaka, Zambia
