It starts with John Carter's son Darus, who lives on Barsoom (what we would call Mars). Darus decides to try to end the thirty-five-year rebellion between Zodanga and Helium. When he tries to infiltrate the rebel's main camp, he is stopped by a helmeted guard. When the guard, Zurah, removes her helmet, she is the most beautiful woman that Darus has ever seen, and immediately the two start a sizzling romance that adds a break in the non-stop action throughout the story. Darus is arrested for trespassing in the rebels' camp and is threatened with torture and death. But his new love affair becomes handy as it is revealed that Zurah is an important person in the camp's hierarchy. Zurah pledges support to Darus and the two head off to end the war once and for all. Sword Masters of Mars is a fun story filled with incredible action that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. I enjoyed this story very much. I liked the science fiction aspects of it and appreciated how Dorsey tried to bring this story into the modern age. Dorsey did a nice job of creating this beautiful imaginary world that I wanted to be a part of. His characters all belonged well in this world and complemented each other nicely. I especially liked Zurah and her kick butt style. This is a fun read that will appeal to readers of action adventure stories and even readers looking for a flirty romance or the good guy fighting and overcoming evil.
