The apocalyptic conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Abhorsen series--an epic fantasy experience not to be missed.
The Abhorsen Sabriel and King Touchstone are missing, leaving only Lirael--newly come into her inheritance as the Abhorsen-in-Waiting--to stop the Destroyer. If Orannis's unspeakable powers are unleashed, it will mean the end of all Life. With only a vision from the Clayr to guide her, and the help of her companions, Sam, the Disreputable Dog, and Mogget, Lirael must search in both Life and Death for some means to defeat the evil destructor--before it is too late. . . .

Garth Nix is so many childhood memories coming back to life (Unholy life? Abhorsen required to put them to sleep?) I remember when (I think I was 11 or 12) I first met the Old Kingdom books in Elliott Bay in Seattle -- I read my first Diana Wynne Jones after visiting there too.
The Clayr saw me, the Wallmaker made me, the King quenched me, the Abhorsen wields me so that no Dead shall walk in Life. For this is not their path.,Garth Nix, Sabriel, charter, purpose, sword,

I'm starting to think Margaret Rogerson will become my comfort reading. Vespertine reminds me a little of Garth Nix's Abhorsen, what with the MC having a snarky, world-devouring companion — but it's not a BAD vibe, nor is the resemblance too much.
