Advanced Polymeric Systems

Didier Rouxel

Over recent years a considerable amount of effort has been devoted, both in industry and academia, towards the incorporation of various macro, micro and nano sized fillers into polymers. There is also much interest in the evaluation of various polymer properties with respect to a wide set of applications. The advances in nanotechnology together with the development in material sciences has improved the shortcomings of these materials over the decade. This book covers the latest advances in the field of polymer nanocomposites and polymer composites for varied applications.

The major topics discussed in the book include:

- Nanostructured materials for energy applications

- Nanostructured polymercomposites

- Bio-polymers

- Nanostructured polymers for biomedical applications

The book contains extended and updated research papers that were initially selected for the ICAMP-2017 conference which focused on advances in polymer materials.

The book is ideal for researchers and practitioners in polymer science and materials science as well as for graduate students in polymer chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology and biomedical engineering.

About the Author

Rouxel, Didier: - Didier Rouxel is full Professor at the Institut Jean Lamour, Universite ́ de Lorraine, France, where he was the former head of the Micro and NanoSystems team and currently leads the Piezoelectric polymer group. Rouxel is graduated from the Ecole Supe ́rieure des Sciences et Techniques de l'Inge ́nieur de Nancy, Vandoeuvre, France. He completed his Ph.D in Material Sciences and Engineering from the University of Nancy I, France in 1993. He was expert for the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety on "Nanomaterials and Health" and "Member of the Year 2014" of the French Society of Nanomedicine. Prof. Rouxel has been involved in particular in the spectroscopic analysis of inorganics and is vastly experienced in the analysis of poly- mer nanocomposite systems by almost all spectroscopic techniques. His major areas of interest include piezoelectric polymers, elastic properties of polymeric materials studied by Brillouin spectroscopy, development of polymer nanocomposite materials, development of micro-devices based on electro-active polymers, piezoelectric nanocrystals, microsensor devel- opment for surgery, shape memory alloy-piezoelectric device for energy harvesting, etc.
Raj, Indu: - completed her PhD in Dentistry (Modern Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India). She is Faculty member for "Rebase-Post grad- uate teaching programme" conducted by Indian Prosthodontic Society-Kerala chapter and also in various CDEs. She presented papers and posters in National and International conferences.
K. M., Praveen: - "Dr. Praveen K. M. is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Muthoot Institute of Technology & Scince (MITS) Ernakulam, Kerala, India. He pursued his PhD in Materials Engineering at the University of South Brit- tany (Universite ́ de Bretagne Sud) - Laboratory IRDL PTR1, Research Center "Christiaan Huygens," in Lorient, France, in the area of coir-based polypropylene micro composites and nanocomposites. He has published an international article in Applied Surface Science (Elsevier), 2 book chapters respectively by Elsevier and Springer Publishers and has also presented poster and conference papers at national and international conferences. Dr.Praveen edited an excellent book on Non-Thermal Plasma Technology for Polymeric Materials: Applications in Composites, Nanostructured Materials, and Biomedical Fields with Elsevier and 6 books with Apple Academic Press, Inc., USA He also has worked with the Jozef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia; Mahatma Gandhi University, India; and the Technical University in Liberec, Czech Republic. He is quite active in academic networking with various research groups around globe and organising technical events in his area of expertise. His current research interests include polymer composites, plasma modification of polymers, polymer composites for neutron shielding applications, and nanocellulose. He is a life member of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Society, India."
