AQUARIUS, The Water Bear
After burying yet another pet in the backyard that he lost under unusual circumstances, one of Bradley Paul Lankershim's 4th grade classmates tells him that he might have a condition called BPL -- Bad Pet Luck. Bradley thinks about his schoolyard diagnosis as he goes over his tragic pet history. He comes to the conclusion that he should never own another pet ever again. Bradley's uncle, Jack, a scientist at an independent laboratory, hears about his nephew's pet plight and brings Bradley a new one that he guarantees is BPL proof. It is a tardigrade, a microscopic creature more commonly known as a water bear. With Uncle Jack's assurance that a water bear is the easiest pet in the world to take care of and they can't runaway and they can only die of "old age," Bradley reluctantly gives being a pet parent one more try. But it only takes one misstep before Bradley's Bad Pet Luck rears its ugly head again. And, even with an indestructible pet like Aquarius, the water bear, Bradley's pet parenthood is put to the test. And he learns what having a pet is really all about.
