Beating the Benzo Blues: Getting off Benzodiazapines

Dale L. Carruth

Benzodiazepines were introduced in the 1950s, and marketed as a non-addictive drug for psychic tension. Time has proven otherwise and these drugs are now known to be responsible for one of the worst medical blunders in history. Many people who take benzodiazepines, (prescribed for sleep or anxiety) are unaware they've developed a dependence and may attribute their withdrawal symptoms to something else entirely.

This booklet provides an easy to follow, 3-step guide to help you to identify dependence and safely taper off benzodiazepines with minimal stress and disruption to daily life. It will help you to split your daily dose to minimise withdrawal symptoms throughput the day, then change over to a long acting benzodiazepine (Valium) - then taper off. It is aimed at both individuals wanting to detox and health practitioners.

Dale Carruth; B.A. Psychology, CAC, is an addiction counselor and educator. This book is the result of both clinical practice and observation while working for Tranx Services, NZ.

Praise for this book

"Straight to the point and informative, Dale Carruth's book contains a lot of solid guidance garnered as an addiction counselor for TRANX drug and alcohol services in New Zealand.

Dale clearly explains the withdrawl symptoms of Benzos, and provides advice as how to withdrawl effectively, using charts to explain the half life of benzos, how to reduce the dosage slowly, as well as some simple processes to effectively get off these drugs. She also provides some helpful lifestyle tips, advice to health professionals, information about support groups and provides some case studies."
