Behind the Blue is the second publication from Indie Author and Connecticut resident, Sharon Arsego. While her first poetry collection, Cadence, was more nature infused and inspired by the light, Behind the Blue is poetry and prose about moments and emotions born out of living within the varying shades of life's shadows. This collection begins in the darkness that often consumes us, and gradually moves towards the slivers of light that lift us out of it.
The author notes that, "In many ways, while Cadence was a collection sharing my observations of the natural world and internalizing that life inward, Behind the Blue is my internal life and dialogue, my mind's eye, if you will, being shared with the outside world." Completed in the weeks following Arsego's uterine cancer diagnosis and related surgeries, she describes the experience, "as seeing life through a more sharply focused lens." Also, as one living with anxiety and depression most of her life, Arsego also strongly supports efforts to improve mental health education and awareness, and hopes the message within the pages of Behind the Blue will serve as a useful contribution to the movement.
"How often we doubt that a broken heart can go on, and that a bruised soul can keep giving and feeling. Arsego's verse puts the pieces together again, and like kintsugi, cracked though it is, the repaired vessel is more beautiful than it ever was before." -- Cameron Trost, Author, Founder & Editor-in-Chief of Black Beacon Books
"This little gem of poetry and prose is one woman's way of sharing her personal journey through life's (often) painful experiences and losses. Arsego braids together optimism with the darkness, while burrowing through to the other side with positivity and grace." -- Stacey Dexter, Author of Eddie: One Dog's Journey from Hobo to a Home
