When Billy and Corvis see each other on hologram it's love at first sight ...

The year is 2099. Corvis Santos is an overworked ICU nurse in the midst of yet another pandemic, but otherwise, life is normal-until he gets fired.

World War III erupts. Escaping the apocalypse on Earth, Jake, his buddy from Peace Corps days, recruits him to pilot a huge "self-flying," ship with 314 orphans on the safe haven of Enceladus, a super-secret colony on Enceladus, an ice moon of Saturn.

Medical problems plague the trip from the beginning, but real trouble starts when an army of gangsters led by the murderous human animal called Brobding takes the children hostage and uses them as a human shield to try to conquer Enceladus.

With the help of hunky Billy Birchfield the squadron leader for the Enceladus Defence Department, Corvis and his charges mount their defense.

Boy meets boy while battling for their lives and the lives of the children. Will they make it to Enceladus? And if they do, how will they be received?

And will Corvis find the man of his dreams?

An engaging sci-fi adventure that blends high-stakes action with personal discovery. The story of Corvis and his daring mission to save orphaned children from Earth's apocalypse is filled with suspense and imaginative settings.

The world building and character descriptions in this science fiction novel are really excellent. I like the fast paced story and the hints of romance. Carver is an author with talent and it will be interesting to see what the rest of the Corvis series will be like.

What is exceptional about this book is the detail about the two main settings: the ship that carries the children to Enceladus and their new planet home. You get a real feel for what it would be like during the trip and their life after they reach their destination. Although you don't get an opportunity to know any of the children well, you still care about their fate as a group. And there are just enough "loose ends" to set up the plot for the second in the series.
