About the Author

PHIL ROSS, an 18-year veteran of college and prep baseball umpiring, also is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). He has more than 30 years' award-winning experience as a sportswriter, news editor and reporter and editorial page editor on daily newspapers in four states, and in political and trade association public relations. Ross served five years as majority communications officer for the Colorado House of Representatives. He is an honorably discharged Vietnam Era U.S. Army veteran, qualifying as an Expert rifleman. When not traveling, pursuing his hobby of collecting college T-shirts and sweatshirts, Ross lives with his wife in Colorado.
