Alone and exhausted. An Empire under siege.

Can Jean liberate the world of Kelan in time for it to save her?

About the Author

Florence, Jacqueline: - Born in London, a long time ago, I eventually accomplished my first dream of joining the WRNS, part of the Royal Navy, as a Meteorological and Oceanographical Observer. Forgive the long winded description, but this was an achievement I am very proud of, even after all these years. When I rejoined Civvy Street and met my husband, we had two fantastic children. If continuing the theme of expanding on those things of which are most proud I would be here all day, so I won't even start, only quietly referring to them, with a proud mum smile, as 'The Kids'.Family established, I returned to my career and took up the mantle of furthering my education, and gaining an MA (Hons) Degree in Psychology. This was soon followed by a Postgraduate MSc in Urban and Regional Planning, finally qualifying as a Development Planner for Aberdeenshire Council. Unfortunately however, after a few years, illness decreed that I had to give up work for a while. It was during this time I revisited my love of writing. I had always spent time over the years penning my thoughts and never really expected them to go any further. But over the past couple of years I gained the courage to create a story that I finally felt confident enough to share with the outside world.Blue Star Rising is the first in a series, along with book two, Sapphire Tree. Royal Blood will be the third instalment of the Kelan Sagas and will be out in October 2023.A short story, Dragon's Eye, will be available free as an Ebook from September 2023, a tale that invites readers join the adventures of Jean and Nathan in the Kelan Sagas; or, for those who have already met our intrepid couple, another opportunity to join them on their exploits.I now live with my husband and other animals in Aberdeenshire, with many frequent visits from the grown up versions of 'The Kids'.

Praise for this book

I would not usually buy books in this genre but what a fantastic read, I was hooked from the first chapter! A great set of central characters with a gutsy heroine helping to save Kelan. Plenty of fast action from the start to the finish with lots of twist and turns, just the way I like my books. Well written and a good plot; I highly recommend you buy this book even if you would not normally choose this genre, you will not be disappointed. Looking forward to the release of the authors next book.

So inventive and yet so believable and so descriptive, The Author takes you on an amazing journey with Jean Carter as a special lady who has many tricks in her armory and guile to match them. She lands in a world where they use horses and carts and yet have computers and mobile phones. Yes, well worth reading, especially with a cup of tea.

Usually I steer clear of fantasy/Si-Fi but was recommended this by someone I know.....

I was hooked from the start! Jacqueline manages to make the characters real, and I wanted to know more and more with the turning of each page!

Can't wait for the next installment!

Jean Carter and her adventures kept me turning the towards in a fantastic SFF debut by a very talented storyteller. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Highly recommended.

Well written and hard to put down first book from a new author. I disappeared into it as easily as any Terry Pratchett book i've ever read. The follow up is equally as good, so now can't wait for the third instalment to be released. Jackie has a real future in fiction writing and I for one can't wait to see her develop as a storyteller. Superb!: -)

I normally read Trudi Canavan, Robin Hobb and Raymond E Fiest but after reading Jacqueline Florence's first book "Blue Star Rising," I'll definitely be adding this new star to my Authors list. Enjoyed this book enormously and I'm already looking forward to the next gritty episode, once you start, you just can't put it down.

Best book that I have read in a very long time. Sometimes you just need to be taken on a journey away from the real world. It helped that the author had a small piece of superglue put on each page, ( I had bought the paperback), as I simply could not put the book down!

Mix a little sci-fi with the worlds of Robert Jordan and Terry Brooks, add intrigue, murder, magic and heroic medieval battle and this is what you get. I felt immersed in the world and trials of the heroine Jean Carter, trials against adversary and her inner self. A wonderful adventure with more to follow. If you love fantasy world's with all of the above, you MUST get this!

I was unsure whether I would enjoy fantasy fiction but once I started reading Blue Star Rising I was thoroughly engrossed. Jean Carter, dumped and alone, has to establish where she is and what her mission is. We follow her along her journey where she meets some interesting characters.

The story opens up and becomes more absorbing the further into it you go. It is very well written with humour throughout and flows flawlessly.
