@collnsmith One of the interesting/unfalsifiable arguments in Civilized to Death by Christopher Ryan is that selfish or aggressive people in hunter-gatherer bands were likely to be nudged off a cliff, and selfish behavior only started conferring a competitive advantage after agriculture.
