Climate change and the spread of Buddhism to East Asia

Alan Ward

Buddhist culture and philosophy spread out from its origins in India to China and Japan in several waves, one of which took place between the 4th and 7th centuries. But why then, and not earlier or later? In this book we examine the hypothesis that at least part of the answer may come from changes in the climate of the region.

About the Author

After many years in Computer Science, Alan felt the need to return to the far eastern cultures he got to know well in his youth. With an MA in East Asian studies under the belt, he had to go a bit further and do some original research in a field that spans both culture and science. Alan teaches high school in Andorra, and in the Open University of Catalonia (UOC).
