Crossing the Digital Faultline

Sri Manchala

Despite enormous leadership efforts, financial investments, and technology implementations, only 7% of companies across industries succeed at digitalization. Combining data from 5,000+ companies and over 20 years of leadership experience, Sri Manchala deconstructs the array of forces that have torn up business ecosystems into an earthquake-like zone, now made worse by the COVID pandemic.

Crossing the Digital Faultline: 10 Rules to Win in the Age of Digitalization and Uncertainty explains the new rules governing life on the digital faultline, and demonstrates how understanding those rules has powered the success of the few-while ignoring them explains how so many companies have failed despite their effort and investment.

With a non-technical and conversational approach, Manchala presents a data-driven analysis of 10 Rules that determine digitalization success or failure. Much like the laws of physics, these rules cannot be ignored or controlled, and they will only evolve to increasing complexity over time. Utilizing simple yet powerful frameworks, Manchala demonstrates the undisputable results produced by leaders and organizations who practice these rules with discipline.

Crossing the Digital Faultline shows that the single most important driver for a successful digital transition is leadership, and that the right leadership entails a seismic shift in mindset. Unifying the style mastered by the successful 7% and principles learned in the military, Manchala presents a new leadership persona for the Digital Age-the Methodical Innovator-and an invaluable 120-day playbook for transitioning to this new persona and crisis-proof leadership.

He is also the founder of Trasers, a digital transformation data services firm that has done extensive research in the field under his leadership. Sri's professional path has been anything but conventional. A graduate of the National Defense Academy, an elite training facility for India's Armed Forces officers, he served in the Infantry and Parachute Regiment-Special Forces. Transitioning into the corporate world, Sri joined Asian Paints, India's largest paint and chemicals manufacturer for a brief period. In 1995, Sri studied international business, corporate strategy, and organizational development at the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business, where is now a Corporate Advisory Board Member. He later joined Cisco Systems at the company's headquarters, allowing him to further learn the processes of strategic and operational evolution in the technology industry. In 2001, he founded Trianz, launching his practice as the first internet wave was emerging. Abstracting several concepts from his military experience, Sri shaped a unique model, culture, and team commitment, helping clients evolve strategically while achieving the best business outcomes from their technology investments-all through precise and predictive execution. In 2016, Sri guided the company's transition into a digital transformation strategy, execution, and managed services company. Trianz has won numerous awards, including three appearances on Forbes' America's Best Management Consulting Firms list. To develop a better understanding of digital transformations through data, Sri and his team launched one of the world's largest business research initiatives, the Trasers Global Transformation Survey. Taken by senior leaders across 20 industries and 5,000+ companies globally, Trasers has collected over 1.5 million data points, covering definitions, vision and strategy, prioritization, implementation, leadership, and organizational change. Trasers provides digital benchmarking services to clients so they can map their efforts and priorities by measuring themselves against the most innovative companies in the world.
