Diagnosis of bovine brucellosis in milk tanks in Mexico.

Aurora Martinez-Romero
Bovine brucellosis is an infectious disease of bacterial origin that affects cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, horses, camelids and dogs, and can infect other ruminants, marine mammals and even humans. In the economic aspect it affects producers and cattle breeders in Mexico, due to losses caused by abortions and retention of placentas, delaying herd multiplication and losing 1/4 of the value per animal unit; there is also the decrease in estrus of infected cows between 40 and 50%, on the other hand, there can also be a decrease in milk production, in infected cows, of up to 20%. Another factor that appears is total sterility. Males and females of high genetic value are lost. Epidemiological studies carried out in the Comarca Lagunera, Durango, Mexico, indicate that bovine brucellosis has proven to be a disease of relevant importance, both for the damage it causes to livestock farms and for its repercussions on public health
