Eddie was a husky-shepherd mix hobo dog living on the streets when I met him. His introduction to "pet life" was full of common situations that for him, weren't common or even familiar. At all. This story chronicles his journey into our home that presented restrictions from the freedom of living on the streets. Would he like it? Would he stay? While there are certainly many wonderful books in the genre of memoir and pets, Eddie is unique in that weaves my own personal struggles as a woman in a troubled marriage with Eddie's own struggles to conform to a life in which his own personality must be tailored to fit in. Though caretaking and struggling relationships are both topics common to many women, few books address these topics in parallel with their dog. There are compelling similarities between my journey and Eddie's, as each chapter is sprinkled with ah-ha moments and life lessons.

Dexter, Stacey L.: - In Eddie: One Dog's Journey from Hobo to a Home, author Stacey Dexter chronicles her outrageous experiences with a homeless dog that she adopted in the mid-late 1990's. She eventually became an advocate for and adopted retired racing greyhounds, her love for all dogs continuing and growing throughout her life. As a musician/singer/songwriter, her years of writing, performing, and recording original music produced a song, "Sometimes Love," which was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Billboard Song Contest. Her love of nonfiction led her to keep notes about Eddie, knowing that someday, she would tell his story. This is her first book.

A friend passed this book along to me, and I loved it! I was completely immersed in the story from the jump, and read it in one sitting. Stacey Dexter's style of writing is immediately captivating, and makes one want to keep reading to hear what's coming next! The story of Eddie (the hobo dog) is charming and heart-warming. Highly recommend.

This book was written in a way that captivated me from the moment I picked it up. I admit I'm a big dog lover, but not sure that is required. It is personal, touching and hits the heart. It's a short read and I could not put it down. Great read!!!!
