Havana, 1958, Elisa Pérez, daughter of a sugar baron, is a member of Cuban high society and is sheltered from the country's political instability until she begins a secret affair with an ardent revolutionary. Her family is forced to flee to Miami after Castro's victory. Miami, 2017, young writer Marisol Ferrera grew up hearing nostalgic stories about Cuba. After Elisa dies, Marisol travels to Havana to scatter Elisa's ashes and discovers that the city that her grandmother remembered no longer exists.
