Ginger Snaps: A Jack Patterson Thriller Volume 2

Webb Hubbell

"Fans of Grisham-like legal thrillers featuring wide-ranging evil conspiracies may be entertained by Hubbell's second novel featuring antitrust lawyer Jack Patterson" -- Publishers Weekly

Jack Patterson returns to Little Rock, Arkansas in the second installment in this political thriller series, after an old friend is arrested for not only marijuana possession, but cultivation and distribution as well. Far from an expert, Jack expects to wrap this up quickly and get back to his weekend plans of golfing--until he learns that Stewart's arrest was never simply about the drugs. The government had known of the existence of his marijuana garden years ago.

Teaming up with his bodyguard and defense attorney, Jack begins to investigate. Stewart's wife is confident this is about her laced ginger snap cookies, used to ease the pain of cancer patients; but Jack can't help but wonder: Why the arrest now? Why are the Feds claiming terrorist involvement suddenly?

The deeper Jack falls into this case, the more he realizes just how many secrets both Stewart and the government are hiding--secrets that connect back to a past that Jack, and everyone involved, would rather forget.

Praise for this book

"Fans of Grisham-like legal thrillers featuring wide-ranging evil conspiracies may be entertained by Hubbell's second novel featuring antitrust lawyer Jack Patterson (after 2014's When Men Betray). Based in Washington, D.C., Jack returns to his hometown of Little Rock, Ark., after Dr. Doug Stewart, a friend of his late wife and a prominent chemist, is arrested by the feds. Doug was growing marijuana in his backyard, but that crime alone doesn't account for the authorities' dubbing him a national security threat and denying access to counsel. The case becomes even more baffling after the attorney learns that Doug alerted the government to what he was growing and that he was doing so for research. Jack, who must contend with U.S. Attorney Wilbur 'Dub' Blanchard, his legal adversary from the prior book, in the courtroom, finds that his involvement in the case places his life--and his colleagues' lives--in jeopardy. Cartoonish villains, thin characterizations, and an implausible denouement are drawbacks." -- Publishers Weekly
