About the Author

Cardinal, Ann Dávila: - Ann Dávila Cardinal is a novelist and director of student recruitment for Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA) where she earned her MFA in Writing. She also helped create VCFA's winter writing residency in Puerto Rico. She comes from a long line of Puerto Rican writers, including poets Virgilio and José Antonio Dávila, and her cousin, award-winning fiction writer Tere Dávila. Ann lives north of Stowe, Vermont with her husband Doug and son Carlos, and likes to spend her free time cycling, doing fiber arts, and preparing for the zombie apocalypse. Five Midnights (Tor Teen) was her first solo novel.
Ortiz, Amparo: -

Amparo Ortiz was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and currently lives on the island's northeastern coast. BLAZEWRATH GAMES is her debut novel. Her short story comic, "What Remains in The Dark," appears in the Eisner Award-winning anthology PUERTO RICO STRONG, and SAVING CHUPIE is her middle grade graphic novel. She holds an M.A. in English and a B.A. in Psychology from the UPR's Río Piedras campus. When she's not teaching ESL to her college students, she's streaming Kpop music videos, vlogging for her eponymous YouTube channel, and writing about Latinx characters in worlds both contemporary and fantastical.

Cuando no está enseñando ESL a sus estudiantes universitarios, está escribiendo sobre personajes Latinx en mundos tanto contemporáneos como fantásticos. Edelman, Claudia Romo: - Claudia Romo Edelman is the founder of the We Are All Human Foundation and Hispanic Star and has worked for twenty-five years with internationally recognized institutions, including the United Nations, the Global Fund, the World Economic Forum, and UNICEF. She's led some of the most successful global campaigns in the last decade, including Product (RED), the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals in collaboration with the United Nations, the creation of the SDG Lions, and the rebranding of the UN Refugee Agency.
Beguez, Alexandra: - Alexandra Beguez is a Cuban-American illustrator and cartoonist who was born and raised in New Jersey. Alexandra has received awards and recognition from the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles, 3x3 Magazine, Creative Quarterly Journal, and Latin American Ilustración. She is a recipient of the 2021 New Jersey Artist Fellowship Grant, awarded by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Her work has appeared in The Nib, The Believer Magazine, Little Nemo: Dream Another Dream, the Hispanic Star series. She also contributed to the graphic novel anthology, Guantanamo Voices, which received the 2021 Lynd Ward Graphic Novel Prize and was a finalist for the Eisner Awards in the Best Anthology category and was included in The New York Times' Best Graphic Novels of 2020 list.
