Hondo the dog has a fun day at the beach while Fabian the cat stays home.
" Wake up, Hondo. Time to go!"
Hondo will have an adventure.
Fabian will stay home.
A dog named Hondo and his friend Fred are going to the beach for a day of excitement. Fabian the cat is left behind at home to play with the baby. Who will cause more trouble? And who will have more fun?
Peter McCarty's exquisite illustrations and understated wit turn an ordinary day in the lives of two pets into a rare delight.
Hondo and Fabian is a 2002 New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Book of the Year and Notable Children's Book of the Year, and a 2003 Caldecott Honor Book.
Peter McCarty has been writing and illustrating picture books since graduating from The
School of Visual Arts in 1992. Little Bunny on the Move, Hondo and Fabian, Moon Plane,
Jeremy Draws a Monster, Henry in Love, Chloe, and Bunny Dreams are among his favorites.
His books have won many awards over the years including the Caldecott Honor for Hondo and Fabian. Peter grew up in a big family and has been drawing pictures out of his bedroom since he was four years old, and he has never stopped. He draws with pencils, pens, inks and
watercolors. The Five Wolves is his latest book.
"The spare, spot-on text is the perfect complement to the artist's warm and satisfying soft-focus artwork." --School Library Journal
"The basic language allows children to elaborate on the story from their own experience and imagination. The large type size means this book will function well as a transitional book as your child starts to recognize words and practices reading. Parents will enjoy the vintage feel of Peter McCarty's exquisite pencil illustrations while children will respond to the loveable animals." --Armchair Interviews
