How To Be a Mentor for a Day: Planning for the Day, Planting for the Future

Craig Thompson

Mentors are a rich source of knowledge to the young and those eager to learn. Yet, Western society has lost the art of preparing adults to mentor those who are in their sphere of influence. When they are asked to mentor a young man or young woman, even for a day, some adults shrink back from the unknown. This book answers the questions of "What should I do when I spend time with a young person for a one-day job shadow or mentor experience?" and "How should I prepare for the day?" With years of experience in working with adults to mentor children, author Craig Thompson guides you step-by-step in your preparation in order to make your mentoring session both enjoyable and effectual.

Praise for this book

This book is a great resource for those looking to share their wisdom with young people for a whole day or even an hour or two. I hope it becomes available in print, as I would hand a copy to each person as I asked them to come in and share how God has touched their life with my youth group class. I am also taking notes as I feel many of the suggestions will enrich my conversations with my students. (Elizabeth Boston)

This is an excellent resource for anyone who may be stumped with the possibility of sharing their life experience with a young person. I have never had the opportunity to mentor, and before reading this book, I would have been at a loss. Now, I feel able to better prepare for that opportunity. This book is a very easy read. It's written in very clear language and includes a checklist at the end of each chapter to help recap or as a refresher in a pinch. I encourage every Christian to read it! As the author reminds us in the book, we are all called to mentor the young. With this book you will be better prepared. (Joselyn Lee)
