I Smell Esther Williams

Mark Leyner

In his debut collection, the author of Et Tu, Babe and My Cousin, My Gastroenterologist and one of our finest young practitioners of the art of literary disorientation plays the English language the way Jimi Hendrix played the guitar--at dangerous volume, blinding speed, and with a fine mixture of lyricism and sheer menace.

Praise for this book

"Leyner's brilliantly discontinuous humor invites comparison with William Burroughs.... It's rude, epic shtick that begs to be read aloud to friends and strangers alike -- if only you could figure out where to stop." -- Village Voice

"He is a twisted wizard, a genre-busting virtuoso, working at the outer edge of narrative convention." -- Jay McInerney
