In Deep

Maryna Ajaja

Poetry. Maryna Ajaja knows about slippery slopes, walking on ice, fishing, children, and standing on cliffs. Ajaja invokes St. Augustine and Anna Akhmatova and honors those who suffered and survived their struggles. Her filmic eye--the result of twenty-five years of professional film programming for the Seattle International Film Festival--gives her work a cinematic quality as she explores relationships, politics, life on the edge, and living near the sea. Like someone hunting for abalone, she dives deep and wrestles for emotional impact.

IN DEEP will not comfort you... Your grief will not be encouraged to hide. When you need a companion incapable of denial...it will remind you that love has a sense of humor and empathy waits in unexpected places.--Nancy Rawles
