Just like there are two sides to a coin, social media is not without its blessings and woes; on the one hand, social media makes communicating and connecting with family, friends and colleagues easier and faster, but on the other hand it also has its downsides. The two sides of the coin have been the subject of several debates with many schools of thought arising. Regardless of the position we choose to take, it goes without saying that the interactions that occur in the several chat rooms, the blogs, electronic forums and boards, e-mail, video chat, text messaging, social networking sites and video sites all have far reaching effects on our thoughts, actions and behaviours whether we are consciously aware of it or not. By exploring the various dimensions that these effects can take, this book hopes to shed more light on the psychological and social effect of being so intricately bound to the wired world and how we might hope to capitalize on its positives and experience less of the negatives.
