The rising shares of renewables as well as the growing demand for electricity for transport and heating is increasing the importance of power converters, and the requirements on their reliability and control. One way is to devise new topologies, another to develop better control. Intelligent control can increase the converter's efficiency, reducing the size and weight. Recently, intelligent control techniques have been applied to power converters, published in many papers and reports.
This book summarises the international state of the art of electric power converter control. It presents a comparison of control methods for different converters to help users identifying the best suited one for each type of converter and application. After an overview, chapters systematically cover control of DC-DC converters and control of AC-DC converters. Techniques presented include e.g. sliding mode control and robust control. The last chapter provides an overview and comparison of power converter control methods.
