Jazzy's Halloween - A Night in Ghouling Brook

Sonja McGiboney

Jazzy's Halloween is a delightful way to introduce the fun side of ghosts, witches, goblins and more to children.

Halloween, a fun festival when spirits are remembered, can be frightening to a child. A child who is scared once may have ghouls and goblins hiding under their beds for quite a while. The monsters in Ghouling Brook are all Jazzy. She dresses like a witch, she wears a cape like a vampire, she's green like a goblin, and well, seeing Jazzy dressed like a mummy using toilet paper will make them laugh.

To add to the fun, the text is based on a song written by Sonja McGiboney. The music and lyrics are provided at the end of the book and a video with music has been uploaded to Sonja's YouTube page for a fun sing-a-long.

The illustrations were created from photographs of Jazzy and abandoned houses from around Virginia, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. The photos were taken by Sonja and then artfully arranged, cut, and/or pasted into a composite image. After the image was created, Sonja used different filters in Photoshop to make the images appear more like illustrations.
