JOSÉ SARAMAGO (1922-2010) was the author of many novels, among them Blindness, All the Names, Baltasar and Blimunda, and The Year of the Death of Ricardo Reis. In 1998 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

@monicabyrne13 A People's History of the Portuguese Revolution by Raquel Cardeira Varela is good - looks at how women and artists (amongst others) were instrumental in the 1974 Carnation Revolution. José Saramago's classic, Journey to Portugal, is also worth a read.
