Adrian McKinty nació y creció en Belfast durante los conflictos de los años setenta y ochenta. Asistió a la universidad de Oxford con una beca para cursar estudios de Filosofía antes de trasladarse a Estados Unidos para convertirse en profesor de lengua en un instituto.
