Among the innovations of MGM's science fiction film Forbidden Planet (1956) was that it was scored entirely by electronic means--a first for a major Hollywood movie. In this study, Wierzbicki (musicology, U. of Michigan) analyzes the music of Louis and Bebe Barron as it was used in the film as well as on the 1977 original soundtrack album.
