This new edition of Lutheran Service Book takes all 656 hymns in Lutheran Service Book and combines each with relevant portions of the text commentary from the Companion to the Hymns, Scripture, prayers, excerpts from the Lutheran Confessions, or writings from Luther and the Church Fathers.

The pairing of hymns and notes gives readers a unique opportunity to pray or meditate on the words of each hymn, undistracted by musical details, and to be enriched in the heritage of the hymn.
